The author of several books, his Men In Space, published by Paladin Press, was selected for both the national high school and junior high school library lists.

Mr. Segel recently retired from a second career as Director, Division of Information, Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Rio Grande State Center. He still continues to serve as a media consultant for the Health and Human Services Commission. He is also a past national president of the United States Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association.

Segel resides in Harlingen, Texas with his wife Pattie. His son, Jason,(a junior high school athletic coordinator and the head tennis coach for both high school and junior high school) along with his wife Jodi, have made Tom and Pattie the proud grandparents of their greatest treasures Serena, Mariah and Blake.
