Our Apocalyptic Government
Harlingen, Texas, June 22, 2007: One hates to think Americans are gullible and self serving, but that observation is proven itself true in election after election. Even though we all know that our government is completely dysfunctional, deceptive, and devoid of principle, we still keep electing the same failed politicos, offering up new versions of failed policies and placing these proven fumblers and failures back into seats of power.
The general belief is that our congressional officials are incapable of effective legislation that will benefit the American public. Most, if not all of us, realize that getting an honest word out of any elected official is as probable as being able to witness an immaculate conception. but, still we keep bringing them back to Washington again and again and again.
Just think about it...24-hour background investigation and verification of illegal aliens!!!! Why it takes six months to do a background check on someone applying for a government job.
Protected borders!!!! They haven’t done the job in the last 50 years. Why should we think it would now be possible?
Fines against employers and those who jumped our national boundary!!!! Congress is already attempting to water down that requirement and the bill hasn’t made it to the president’s desk.
Those 12 million illegals in our country!!!! Have you ever known our government to be on target with any estimation?
The federal government has already underestimated the cost of fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan by billions and billions of dollars. These same legislators underestimated the Medicare drug benefit program by one third. Last summer we were told that during June and July there was actually a decline in the inflation rate, when the reality was prices increased by .2 and .3 percent respectively. Six out of the last eight years our government underestimated the volume of aviation traffic. Why it even underestimated the number of Pacific coast salmon by 40%. With this track record, can we really believe there are only 12 million illegal aliens in the country?
None of this even addresses the huge platter of pork that is served up to the folks back home to buy votes in any upcoming election. It doesn’t examine those laws and promises of laws designed to restrict our freedom of speech. It doesn’t speak to the politicizing of our courts and the age of “gotcha” politics in which we live.
With a 14% approval rating, Congress is poised to ask us for even more years of bleeding the American treasury. With a less that 30% approval rating the President wants us to accept his word and approve of his leadership.
What Americans should be saying is “A pox on all your houses!”
Still, with the entire country already gearing up for new national and congressional elections, we can only look forward to more of the same old stuff. Elections have been rigged to give incumbents more than a 90% chance of reelection. In most districts and states we can expect the American public to keep voting as it has always done in the past. They will vote their personal and not our national interest. This has always been our style and we only have ourselves to blame for the denigration of our country.
